So here I am, with blog in hand, looking at it quizzically, wondering…so what’s this thing for anyway?! Five years ago there was two people blogging- okay, maybe one and half. Today, there’s two million (give or take a few). With this deluge of voices, you have to ask yourself a few questions: “Should I blog?” “Will anyone read my blog?” “Is it bad to blog in my underwear!?” “Is there a blogger’s secret handshake?”
The one final and most important question I have to ask is: “Do I have anything to say?” (sound of crickets here) (sound of blank stare and repeated blinking). There’s several kinds of blogs I suppose: topical blogs, professional blogs, my-daily-life blogs, blogs that tell all, and blogs that…well, don’t really say much at all. So, what will it be? What do I have to say? And who will I say it to? These are the hard questions every newblogger must face as he climbs out of the cave of silence into the blinding glare of public discourse. Whether a housewife, a student, a small business owner, a biker, a pastor, or a CEO, it’s time we all got off our butts, take our soapboxes and take our places in the great conversation that is the public square.
Another blogger is born! I’ve got my domain name, my laptop, my blogging software…but WAIT!! What’s the secret handshake???! -JDF
