Before my wife and I moved to the Central Virgina area we lived up in Northern Virginia (near Warrenton/Manassas). I was doing research about Lynchburg, Bedford and the surrounding towns, job hunting online and in person driving down here for several days to explore. When I was online I stumbled onto several local news portals, one of them being the hyperlocal news site AppomattoxNews.com. At that time the website needed some big help visually; “I wish I could help them redesign this site,” I thought.
Several years later I began using Twitter and eventually met the owner of AppomattoxNews.com, Linda Goin. After collaborating with her on a local, all day social media seminar/gathering we threw together a website and regional social network to continue what was started at the event. Social Media River was born but with no time and little resources for either of us to pour into it, it was a flash in the pan. I still think it’s a great concept, but it’s day in the sun will have to wait…for now.
After helping her start Social Media River, Linda asked me to help overhaul AppomattoxNews.com. We created a new logo for the site based on an initial design Linda had created and taking some ques from The Huffington Post (implementing contextual style sheets for each main category), built a fresh new look for her existing content.
I’m proud to say, ‘go check it out’: AppomattoxNews.com
