A friend of ours posted this on her blog recently:
“Sharing is the essence of teaching. It is, I have come to believe, the essence of civilization . . . Without it, the imagination is but the echo of the self, trapped in a soundproof chamber, reverberating upon itself until it is spent in exhaustion or futility.” -Bill Moyers
Before my wife and I moved to the Central Virgina area we lived up in Northern Virginia (near Warrenton/Manassas). I was doing research about Lynchburg, Bedford and the surrounding towns, job hunting online and in person driving down here for several days to explore. When I was online I stumbled onto several local news portals, one of them being the hyperlocal news site AppomattoxNews.com. At that time the website needed some big help visually; “I wish I could help them redesign this site,” I thought.
Several years later I began using Twitter and eventually met the owner of AppomattoxNews.com, Linda Goin. After collaborating with her on a local, all day social media seminar/gathering we threw together a website and regional social network to continue what was started at the event. Social Media River was born but with no time and little resources for either of us to pour into it, it was a flash in the pan. When we met, Leslie had no website, no visual identity for her business and only generic business cards. Her business spreads best via word-of-mouth through passionate clients telling others about her excellent services. It’s no doubt that her business would continue to grow even without any unified marketing efforts, but the niche nature of her business poses a unique challenge: how do families in the Central Virginia area who are seeking homebirthing as an option find her easily? Catalyst National Tour – New York
Seth Godin, marketing guru and author of one of the most popular blogs in the world, welcomes the Catalyst National Tour to his office in New York. He shares about his experience at Catalyst 2008 and insight on what he’s learning right now.

I am a big fan of Seth Godin. In fact, his last book ‘Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us‘ is at the top of the list for books I recommend to business owners, leaders, bloggers, really anyone engaged in cultivating a community. What I love about Seth is his ability to see beyond the status quo and challenge preconceptions about business, marketing, community, leadership, ideas, media, and many aspects of society. Isn’t it terrible when the shoemaker’s kids have no shoes and the painter’s house needs to be painted? Welcome to my world. I haven’t been blogging much at all over the past year but finally the new site design is live and I have a lot of things to say to make up for being silent here. We have so much going on and in the coming days we will post all of our big news, what we’ve been up to during all this non-blogging, and thoughts on a myriad of topics concerning the web, media, marketing, ethical business, Christian faith, and well…everything else I didn’t mention.
So enjoy the new site! Not all the wrinkles are ironed out, there are some pictures missing, etc., but come back soon and see how we’re reshaping the future of WISELY WOVEN. I’ll be talking to you more in the coming days. Thanks for stopping by! (Oh yeah and if you are on Twitter, give us a holler. Find us as: wiselywoven).
